Oy vey..
How has my disdain for the abundance of mediocre, Disney sequels not been briefly previously mentioned? They partly explain my great dislike of previous chairman and CEO, Mike Eisner, as I blame him.
Maybe they won't be such terrible direct to video crap as in the past since Disney is now under Bob Iger.
Some upcoming sequels include:
Toy Story, Cars, and Monsters Inc. are all Pixar projects. This is a good thing since John Lasseter, Pixar's chief creative officer, has stated: "We believe that the only reason to do a sequel is if you have a great story, period. It's not 'Let's just keep cranking it out.'" I love Pixar. I love John Lasseter. They create quality films and their only sequel to date, Toy Story 2, did better in box office sales than the original. Granted Cars didn't do as well as their other movies (and despite my love for the company I have no interest in seeing it).
The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and Johnny Depp, of course, have a huge fan base, myself included. I have to ignore the immediate squeamish gut reaction at another Disney sequel/another Pirates movie/another Depp movie, and admit I'm pretty damn excited and can't get enough of this franchise. It's also a huge merchandising outlet, and advertising for their Disney World/Land rides.
